Look behind your living room drapes down near the baseboard. They'll be
hiding among the dust bunnies. <g>

Seriously, on an XP system, they're in:

C:\Documents and Settings\<user_name>\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\<some_weird_number>\Microsoft\Outlook Express\

The some_weird_number folder is the actual identity folder. It's possible
that even though you do all of your mail from one identity that there _may_
be more than one such folder, so you need to follow the chain all the way
and look at the dates on the .dbx files--I like to use Inbox, since that's
the one that's the most likely to have been last updated.

Yes, you can back up those folders. The one thing I don't know is whether,
if you reformat your hard drive, for example, or do something else, whether
or not the long string in those identity folder names will be identical once
you restore your system. That is, my suggestion, just to be safe, would be
to back up the entire folder chain, but when you restore the system, be
careful to double check before restoring to see that the identity string is
the same. If it's not, you can copy the \Microsoft\Outlook Express\
subfolder chain, by itself, to the new computer under the new identity
string.

Subject: [jaws-users] .dbx folders

Okay, I give up. Where are the .dbx folders hidden?

I've checked the program files and did a windows find in "all files and
folders" for *.dbx and came up with nothing.

Also, if i do a back up of documents onto a data cd with easy cd creator,
can i
back up those folders?
Thanks, Karen
