There's never a need to place the file extensions like .exe or .bat in the 
command line. The important thing is whether or not the file is in the 
default path _unless_ you're pointing directly at the folder where the file 
resides. If the file is not in the default path and you are not pointing 
directly to the folder where the file is found, you _must_ give the full 
path. However, you still never need to include the file extension if all 
you're trying to do is run the program.

Having said this, there is no Scandisk program in Windows XP Pro, at least. 
I just checked and have verified this.
