Hey Bob,
If I want to put my computer on stand by, what is the letter I would hit
after the letter U? I know I would hit the windows key followed by the
letter U, then I'm not sure what letter would put the computer in stand by
mode. Thanks in advance.
Take care,
Lisa

If you are on your desktop and don’t wish to close/turn your system off then
don't use the Alt+F4 command.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish when you do this command from your
desktop?

Alt+F4 is the command to close/turn off applications that you are in and
currently using. So basically when you are on your desktop and do the
Alt+F4 keystroke command, you are telling your system you want to close
down, that is why you are prompted to the close/shutdown/standby menu.

The quickest way I know to shut down your system from anywhere, is to do
Windows Key, then the U key twice. To do a restart its Windows key then the
key U then the key R.

HTH
Bob

If this is fact, how is it that it never worked like this in the past, but
only started this afternoon? this is a real time-waister and there must be
some way to set it back the way it once was without me often landing on a
Turn Off button when I have no desire or intentions to turn off the
computer.

That is a window shortcut to turn off your computer while on the desktop.

This has never happened before but this afternoon it began. If I am on
the Desktop and then alt F4, I go immediately to a turn Off Button which
needs to be changed. Why is it happening and how can I change it?
  thank you
