Jim, I was just leaving everyone to digest what you were asking of them :-)
Rick decided to provide an [AD] in response, for DesignBais. I can provide some more information about the product in the original subject line - do I need [AD] for that Jim? OSMOSiS was originally written for jBASE, to provide a GUI development and administration environment for an otherwise character-based multi-value platform. To this end, OSMOSiS has the following modules within its portfolio: OSMOSiS Configure - a GUI module that manages accounts, environment variables, users etc. OSMOSiS Developer - allows the building of systems using GUI-based and/or character-based tools. OSMOSiS Menu - the end-user GUI interface for running the applications developed in OSMOSiS. OSMOSiS Terminal - a terminal emulator (using MDI methods to manage multiple connections to jBASE in character-mode). OSMOSiS PrintManager - a GUI front-end to the jBASE spooler so you can perform all of the spooler commands without needing to know the specific commands and syntax; including drag-and-drop spooler entries from one queue to another, starting/stopping print queues etc. OSMOSiS eFax - a GUI communication module that links to OSMOSiS to allow email, fax and text messages to be sent from within an application developed in OSMOSiS. OSMOSiS SBConv - an automated conversion of System Builder and/or SB+ applications into the OSMOSiS environment - converting every aspect of the original application into OSMOSiS and allowing development of the application to continue with OSMOSiS tools. The OSMOSiS system also allows applications to be available in both GUI and character modes and any combination of these. If one particular user prefers character then the user's OSMOSiS application can be set to show everything in character mode. If a User or the whole site requires that all reports and enquiries are to be shown in GUI but file maintenances and/or transaction processes are to be run in character-mode, this is also available. Other features of OSMOSiS include (amongst others): For the end-user: Reports and enquiries create tables of data in a GUI Grid function so you can sort, filter, group, export to Excel, Word, XML, HTML etc. Favourites in the GUI menu systems to allow Users to tailor their systems. History in the GUI menu system to show where the user has been. Users can tailor the look-and-feel of their own menu system - colours, fonts etc. Jump codes in the menu system provide a quick and easy method of running routines, even from the most complicated menu system. For the developer: A debug facility for developers - providing a graphical debug tool similar to VB, setting break points, hovering over variables to show their content, showing the source code (if it is available of course) in full - including all programs and subroutines within the current execution sequence, trace table for variables, showing the contents of INCLUDES during debug, colour coding of the programs highlighting jBASE instructions, common variables, local variables etc. and much more.... A program editor with colour coding, hover help for jBASE instructions (showing syntax) and OSMOSiS common variables (showing description of their use). F3 on a jBASE instruction automatically brings up the jBASE manual page for the instruction. There's lots more to it.... File data editor showing data in attribute, value and sub-value formats. Automatically maintain character and GUI systems from either the GUI development tools or the character-based ones. Those are just a few helpful items for the user and developer. Hopefully I have made my point that OSMOSiS is a total graphical environment for jBASE, not only an application development tool and includes BOTH character and graphical tools and applications. Please contact [email protected] for more information or visit www.sc-sys.com for a more in-depth analysis of the OSMOSiS product. Regards, Neil p.s. for our colleagues across the pond, please substitute color for colour, inquiries for enquiries, favourites for favourites etc :-) -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Jim Idle Sent: 09 April 2010 21:09 To: [email protected] Subject: RE: Osmosis for GUI updating "old" code Well Rick, Looks like it is just you replying ;-) Jim > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf > Of Rick Weiser > Sent: Friday, April 09, 2010 12:36 PM > To: jBASE > Subject: Re: Osmosis for GUI updating "old" code > > Jim, > > Of course you are correct that everyone will be replying to this. > But, Marc, if you don't want to learn VS '10, C# and MSQ then have a > look at DesignBais (www.designbais.com).
