Simon: You are 100% correct.

One must go to control panel > administrative tools > local security policy.

Third item on the list that pops up is "Accounts: Limit local use of blank
passwords to console logon only"

Change the security setting to "disabled", and voila I can now set the
password to blank on my GCS account, and telnet in simply by depressing <ENTER>
key at the password prompt. Just like the good old days.

Once again, you have helped me greatly. Thank you Simon.

Dave

On XP and above, there is a Security setting which says something about not
being able to login to an account without a password except from at the console
- this prevents you logging into a telnet session using an account with no
password.

It may be this that is causing your problem

Check the Local Security Settings (I think under the "account" section) on the
PC.

Hope this helps

Simon

I have been away from intensive use of jb for quite a while now, but remember
that my clients all used W2K and simply hit the enter key for password to log
in. I later, set up my application in my office using xp-pro, but until I
re-loaded my system this last time, I don't ever remember having to enter a
password to log in to my POS account. Oh well, more than one way to skin a
cat, so I think I will just put a login script in my telnet application
(NetTerm). Seems strange though, that one can use an xp password as short as
one space, but if you delete the password, you can't log on with a null pw.
Looks like ms places a default pw when one chooses to delete it. I have done a
bit of research and all of the suggested solutions don't seem to work when one
is attempting to telnet.

Dave,

I have always needed a user password to log onto jBase via Telnet. I asked
about this years ago and no workaround was ever offered.

Alan

Subject: JB 3.X ON XP-PRO

Hi All:

I have an interesting situation with my system.

I have set up and account called "GCS" and the path to it is simply C:\usr\GCS

Everything seems to be working ok in Jbase.

Here is a scenerio. I log on to my system as administrator with no password.
I open my Telnet window and attempt to log on to jbase. I get the normal
Account Name: prompt, to which I reply "GCS". It gets strange when I am asked
for a password . It apparently wants the password that I would assign to the
account when I created it under windows. I can log on if I use this password,
but I remember previous installations when I did not need a password here. So,
I removed the password under windows, restarted my jbase server, but cannot log
on at all either with or without a password.

So, straighten me out please.

Dave.
