Thank-you Simon. I tried clear-file md, but system wouldn't let me do this on an md or system file. I had an attribute descriptor called "1" in the md , so did a select md with 1 NE "PQN" to preserve my account pointer and then delete MD. Then UPDATE MD. I now have 183 items in my MD instead of the 2789 previously . Dave
