Richard, I do a lot of Android work with Java so I can help with the S3. I even use MV BASIC to generate simple Android apps, but this utility of mine is not yet ready to be productized into a general purpose developer tool for others. (Yes, write BASIC code, run a program to build the app, install to Android, and it all works.)
A simple app for Android can be created fairly quickly using common Java tools, where you enter some data, query/update the remote DBMS, return data, etc. As to iOS, I've also used Xamarin which allows us to write cross-platform (iOS/Android/WP) apps using Visual Studio and C#, though I have not yet had need to actually deploy to iOS (or pay related fees to Apple). If you have a need for this we can discuss options. Finally, while I am a big advocate of using native apps to do things that browser pages cannot do, there are some tasks for which a browser is perfectly suited. So if you want to display a picture from jBase on a device, you don't need an app, but if you want to take a picture, you "generally" do. If you want the device to occasionally report the user's location to jBase you need an app, but if you want to display a map with data from jBase you do not. Apps are also good for push notifications, like for letting users know that something has happened on the server. Then again, it's easy to send email or SMS from jBASE, so it may not be necessary to have a custom background service on a device looking for such messages. I just mention this because some people say they want an app but all they need is a web page ... and sometimes it's the other way around. For all of these, the question is not "how do I use jBase or other MV platforms with a mobile device". Separate the tasks. First you want some kind of mobile development, whether "thick" app or "thin" browser UI. This is completely independent of jBase and anything else in our industry. Then you want data exchanges with jBase, which is completely independent of any UI, device, etc. [ad] As always, mv.NET can play a key part in the interface of any device with your jBase system. [/ad] I'll be happy to discuss these things with you and of course to offer whatever solutions I can. I would really enjoy working on such a project.
