The problem is the 'should' Once I make the swap I am stuck. There are
18 remote systems all 3.x that I do not want to have to replace on the
fly if it does not work.

There is no programming involved in jRFS. jRFS is simply a
NFS for jBASE that has some enhancements for SELECT (allowing
remote select) and locking
You can mix jRFS with versions so long as you only want to use
it to access files, but it is not recommended and remote
select and some other enhanced features would not work.
