I'd like to know, too. It may solve some other problems for me. I Googled it and was left more confused than before.

I have to shamefully say, I have no idea how to set the UNC to its lowest level.  I know we are talking about Universal Naming convention but that’s all

Can you give me a hint please

Again, have you checked the UNC? If it is not set to the lowest level it will not allow running programs or accessing files on a different account.

I’ve been playing around with my system and have found the following:

I log on a development account
If I do a SET-FILE CHURCH MD (just as a test), it works
If I do a SET-FILE TPH-III MD , I get :   Invalid Q pointer specification , Account = 'TPH-III' , file = 'MD'

I have checked my windows control panel>users> properties for both accounts and they are identical (except for the account names of course)
I have checked my system file and have identical entries for CHURCH and TPH-III
I remember modifying and registry entry to allow me to log on to accounts with a null password. I must have done it for both CHURCH AND TPH-III because I can logon to them with having to enter a password.

I seem to remember in the dim, dark recesses of my mind (scary place to go) that 3.X had some sort of problem with Q pointers. Try an F pointer and see if that helps:

MD filename
001 F description           (description is optional)
002 Full data file path
003 Full dict file path     (with ]D on the end)

That will treat the file as local in any account in which it exists. Of course, as has already been said, you have to have permissions to the file. Windows 7 is a bear about permissions.

I also have a file called TPH-CONTROL in my main account, which I think should not be there .  I deleted the entries “TPH-CONTROL” AND TPH-CONTROL]D FROM MY MAIN ACCOUNT.  I just tried to to set up a Q POINTER , but it won’t let me.  Tells me I have an Invalid q pointer.

Do you have an entry in the system file for TPH-II so Jbase knows where it is?

Gentlemen:

Wondering if you can give me a clue to my latest predicament:

I am attempting to use a program in another account but when I choose an option in that program, see nothing happening.  However, if I break into the program (ctl-c) I see the following error message on my screen:

Unable to open file TPH-CONTROL

This is a file in the same account as the program I am trying to run.

In my current account if have in my MD:

001 Q
002 TPH-III
003 TPH-CONTROL
004
005
006
007
008
009 L
010 10

If I log onto the secondary account, the program runs fine.

What am I missing ?
