I guess it's because your DISPLAY envirronment variable is not set. If you
open a terminal window (i.e. xterm) within your NX session and run TWS it
will work because the DISPLAY variable will be set. You will need a window
manager. Install xfce if you want a light window manager. You need to
specify the path to the command startxfce in your NX client.

You do not need to let your NX client connected. When you close your client,
choose "disconnect" in the appearing popup and your session will continue to
run head less.

Finally you can use IBController to automate TWS daily restarting.
