The virtual private servers (a FreeBSD virtual machine dedicated to your personal use) are about $80/month with a $50 setup fee. The dedicated servers (an actual hardware server for your personal use) are a little less than $300/month with a $150 setup fee. These prices are for the most basic configuration. The dedicated servers used to be $198 per month, and I had locked in at that price for years, but decided to drop to a VPS for cost savings. I chose the basic config because I'm doing all my development and backtesting on my machine at home (also FreeBSD), and only using the VPS for forward testing and live trading (though I haven't gone live again since the market took a dump a while back... I hope to soon).
Reliability is excellent. I had a dedicated server for years and cannot recall a single instance of unexpected downtime. They always notify you in advance of scheduled downtime for maintenance, and will reschedule it according to your needs. Even the scheduled downtime is very rare. I'm going to conservatively say that there may have been one instance of unexpected availability failure over the last couple of years, but I can't actually remember it happening. I just switched from a dedicated server to a VPS last month, so I haven't fully- characterized it, but I haven't noticed any significant differences so far, and I don't expect to. You can get more info on the VPS configurations at http://www.pair.com/services/vps/ For all the praise I'm heaping on them, I would also point out the down side, which is that these systems are generally intended for more mainstream hosting needs. Configuring them to suit a remote JBT instance is something that requires confidence in using and configuring UNIX via the command line.
