 Even scarier is that some people actually _make_ such arguments 
 without thinking.

 I think MS is on the run.  They're still facing antitrust action
 in the US.  There is a tremendous amount of hostility directed
 against MS here.  I can't believe that guy would say something
 like that at this point in time.  

 I heard the Red Hat CEO and COO interviewed on a National Public
 Radio program recently.  They've got their own axe to grind, sure...
 but they said the prevailing thinking coming from the universities
 is that "it's no longer 'cool' to develop for [MS]".

 Unix built its following in the universities.

 Arrogance always catches up with you.  Two companies I remember
 that alienated their base of technical users were DEC and WANG.
 
 Remember them?
