see that is the funny about it. You would think that countries that are cash strapped would go for open source, but in all the countries it is the reverse that I see at play. They go for the expensive stuff and frankly that makes no sense to me. It seems US and europe are even more cash strapped and are really going for JBoss...
The way I see it I like to do one training in all these countries to get the group going over there. I don't expect business from any of these countries, and we are doing ok with '1st world' countries so it is less a question of money for JBoss Group (I don't think we will see a dime out of china) than jumpstarting the communities there so they are SELF SUSTAINED. marcf > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On > Behalf Of Azfar Kazmi > Sent: Thursday, November 28, 2002 3:51 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Re: [JBoss-dev] TONIGHT: JBOSS OPEN HOUSE @ GENEVA > > > in places where interest is unknown: people already there can > begin jboss-user-group. once the group gets going, jboss > group (LLC) may calculate the interest - no matter what level > of world it is. > > btw, i have seen students paying US$5000 a month for courses > on SAP and Oracle applications, in pakistan. i am sure same > will be the case everywhere. > > market in these regions has great potential for open source. > local contact points/persons will be needed. government of > pakistan has declared linux to be the official OS for > desktops. projects are underwar to tweak it. > > -- > azfar > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "saroj kumar" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Sent: Wednesday, November 27, 2002 8:34 AM > Subject: RE: [JBoss-dev] TONIGHT: JBOSS OPEN HOUSE @ GENEVA > > > > Hi Marc, > > > > It surely hurts to be called a "3rd World" country but I Appreciate > > your view point. > > > > You are right that it is risky but I hope it will turn out > > To be a nice Surprise :-) > > > > I am an Indian Software Developer working on Jboss and > > Have developed a liking (sort of) for it. > > > > I would love to attend this kind of training but am not > > Sure about the head count. > > > > May be we should start off with some good success > > Stories with Indian Developer Community and that may ignite We > > Indians' Passion for Jboss. > > > > I am sure that it makes much more sense to do Jboss rather > Than cough > > up 1M Indian Rupees for a low end Weblogic License. > > > > It is just that Indian Software Community is mainly into Services > > Where terms are set by Clients (who opt for Big Heavy Companies). > > > > However, I do see signs of some change but it is very slow > as of now. > > > > Present is not encouraging but FUTURE is. > > > > -Saroj > > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of > > marc fleury > > Sent: Wednesday, November 27, 2002 9:19 PM > > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > Subject: RE: [JBoss-dev] TONIGHT: JBOSS OPEN HOUSE @ GENEVA > > > > > > > > > > I would like to know if the Jboss Group is planning any > > > visits(training > > > etc) in India > > > in the near future. > > > > the formula for 3rd world countries is difficult and not > found yet.
