As you said, JavaScript is probably adequate for the task and more admin friendly. It may be possible to support multiple scripting languages provided they support limiting their domain. Meaning I only want you to script what I expose to you nothing more. JavaScript (aka ECMA) is probably a must if we intend for admins/power-admins to be able to write things like matchers.
