I think that JMX is a good match for a server to
manage plugins, but unless I am missing your point, I
don't believe that JMX is appropriate for EJB at all.
The EJB spec clearly identifies the EJB container as
the manager of EJB instances, and the clients'
interaction with the beans is what influences the EJB
instance lifetime.

That's just the way it is.

If you were using EJX on the client side to manage
front-line components that used EJBs, that's one way
to think of using it to "manage EJBs."
