That's interesting because we're considering doing exactly the same thing.
However I fully expect our bigger clients to choose Weblogic (or Websphere),
for two reasons:
1) Documentation and support. To say jBoss documentation is incomplete is an
understatement ! And support is entirely dependent on the whim of the,
voluntary, developers. If they don't want to answer a question then you not
going to get one. (I cite my query re security as an example).
2) Responsibility. If you pay 15K per cpu for a piece of software there is
the expectation (realistic or not is irrelevant) that there is "someone", in
the case of WLS it's BEA, you can shout out.
That said, I expect jBoss will be very popular with companies taking their
first steps, perhaps looking at a relatively modest number of users where
the price of commercial offerings just kills them dead. But as they grow I
would expect them to migrate to commercial offerings. (I don't think anyone
would care to risk a 20,000 company critical system to jBoss just yet. At
least BEA and IBM have lots of experience of "this kind of system".)
But then the other way of looking at it is - its an opportunity. Perhaps
someone here (me even!) will setup the jBoss equivalent of Red Hat in order
to offer that kind of support, and comfort, to the big users.

Subject: [jBoss-User] JBoss against Weblogic - 1:0
Hi all,
On Friday i started my project under jBoss before it was running under
Weblogic
The results:
1. Average performance is better about 20% using JBoss.
I do tested automatic email responce system. One EMail is processed abount
in 270 ms (120ms finder acccording the list of rules, 150ms some bussiness
logic). Test done under Windows NT4, Oracle 8i, BMP entity beans + Session
beans.
2. Client login should be changed. As u know Weblogic using realms and if
you want to use JBoss something new (maybe session Bean for loggining)
should
be implemented.
I like it because i have using ANT and have changed my Build.cmd in such way
i can compile JBoss or Weblogic versions now customers can select
wanted application server and if we compare price for JBoss for Weblogic I
bet we know the sellection :)
