This may not exactly be what you are looking for. Starting Java 5, there's a tool which Sun provides for listing the instrumented HotSpot Java Virtual Machines (JVMs) on the target system. http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/tooldocs/share/jps.html. But this becomes tricky if there are multiple java processes running, in which case you wont be able to identify which pid belongs to the JBoss instance.
