First, you should have started a new post and not appended to an existing post.

If you login as admin do the portlets show up? What commands did you use to create the database and user in the database? When you wiped out the database, did you also remove the server/xxx/tmp, server/xxx/data and server/xxx/work directories? Are there any exceptions showing up in the log when you access the portal's home page?
