Phew, finally found what was causing the problem. I had this on the template page:
| <ui:debug hotkey="a"/> | which for some reason made something very unhappy after a fileUpload. Toobad - it was quite handy to have the debug hotkey on pages... Greatful if someone had any ideas - maybe I did something wrong with the ui:debug declaration?
