Chris, the JBossGenericPrincipal is needed for Tomcat authorization in the realms (JBossSecurityManagerRealm and Jacc.....Realm) and in Tomcat RealmBase class. So as a first step, you need to see how your custom principal maps to GenericPrincipal.
