I too would equate "cast in stone" to be "defined as an immutable contract".
In this case though, I would consider the term "fixed" as "corrected, as in corrected a bug" because the statement says "...that JBossMQ defined and *fixed*...". You already state that it has been defined as an immutable contract, and then fixed to work. In a sense, a bit like a test-first approach to writing code - define what it is meant to do (the test or immutable contract) and then fix your code to make it adhere to that contract.
