Philip Grunikiewicz took over project coordination from Joe Peer. Now he's
busy with another project and cannot currently care about dbforms. Before he
left, he ask if someone was interested in doing this job, but nobody has
officially volunteered. There might have been a time then when nothing really
happened with dbforms or offers to contribute seemed to be ignored.
This is a list of open bugs I know about:

   - Check
               [dbforms] Update bug
      reported by John Gagon (2002-09-10)

   - Correct dbforms to be able to work with
      taglib pooling (tomcat 4.1.x)

      Detected by Mark Dimon, see

thread [Jdbforms-developers] Anyone else having problems with
               tomcat4.1.10 and readonly (2002-09-10)
summary Re: [dbforms] DbForms and Tomcat 4.1.x (2002-09-25)

   - Problems with bounded navigation after inserting
a row with auto generated keys

Look, there you are! Yes, looks like nothing happened and that is not good.
The first thing we should do is to use the bug tracking systems on sourceforge
in order not to forget these bugs. And if someone (including you) offers to fix it,
we should welcome that.

However, that is some time ago, in the mean time some of us joined and tried to
coordinate how to integrate extensions within local copies into the main
cvs repository. Since last release we have

  - several enhancements within devgui and xsl-stylesheets (Sebastian)
  - integration of JavaScript calendar to edit date fields (written by Robert Husted)
  - extended searching (Henner)
  - automatic generation of HTML and PDF reference documentation for taglib
  - lots of bug fixes and enhancements by Henner

and we expect the following extensions in near future:

  - multidb support (Brad)
  - integration of flexible connection pool factory (Luca)
  - 2 minor extensions within taglib (Luca)
  - foreign key support within devgui and stylesheets (Eric)
  - format attribute extension (Shawn)
  - several taglib extensions (Henner)

Other things we talked about:

  - extend interceptors to be able to add more parameters without
    changing java interface
  - replace default dbforms events by developer written events
  - check rules and generate cascading events for foreign keys
  - ....more

Some of these extensions are already within cvs, I admit we should soon
start to publish developers releases to let those
people without cvs have a look at the new features.

More extensions are expected to be discussed on the list. Something
I'm going to do is: A dbforms based database browser for which
you do not need to write the config file or pages yourself. Just
connect and use a default interface for an arbitrary database.
Ok, None of the topics mentions above might be
a 'killer extension', but none of us gets paid for dbforms.

If you look at the lists archives, you'll notice that we have never had
so many messages. And the important thing for the project is: We have
about 6 contributors with new code and some more who participate
within discussions.

Any contribution is welcome. If you just want to input some ideas and dreams,
if you want to code, test, document, discuss, coordinate, write a FAQ or
whatever: Everything is welcome.

I hope this answer helps to break down any "barrier" :). Please stay here and
contribute and do also assist the others with their contributions!

Regards

Dirk
