in effect I have a different case, I use [NULL] in select's attribute "customOption", so when in db there is a null, the value in select is [NULL], but old value is filled "directly" from db, so it takes an empty string.This should work. Both methods use getFormattedFieldValue(), which is using getNullFieldValue() to retrieve the null field value... Just tested it with bookstore/testBOOKSListAutoUpdate.jsp and the value and the oldValue for the test null value are the same. And autoupdate do not raise update.
