I downloaded the build(version 2.3) and ant (Version 1.5.4), set ant_home and java_home(version 1.4.2), then run ant

after a few seconds there was a complaint that
etc/dbforms_manifest
did not exist so I created an empty file to see if I could coax the build further.

The build then got a bit further then complained about file not found when zipping/unzipping, among other things.

I looked through the readme but could not find the files specified in the source (maybe they are supposed to be built by ant?

I don't have a real recent binary distribution handy to reference but the one I do DOES NOT seem to have those files (etc/dbforms_manifest) under src. I know those files are there when I use cvs and build it that way.

However, you do not really need to build dbforms unless you have changed something in the src and in that case maybe you can more easily use cvs to get the layout to build correctly.

[I tried to build on windows 2000 and linux (fedora core 1)]
I must be missing something, please forward me a link to an effective getting started guide.

The documentation should be included in distributions (not under /src/org/dbforms but rather /doc/UsersGuide/html/index.html . If not please see http://jdbforms.sourceforge.net/projectguides.html
