It should be (it is already an integral part of XEmacs). However, I've
also been put off by Richard Stallman's insistance, as a condition of
incorporation into Emacs, that all JDE defaults be set to use GNU Java
development tools (e.g., compiler, vm, etc.), such at they are, and that
the JDE contain no reference anywhere, not in its doc, not in its code, to
non-GPLed code. In particular, Richard wants the JDE to be developed,
documented, and promoted as though JavaSoft and the JDK do not exist. I
find this unacceptable and hence have been in no rush to make the JDE part
of the Emacs distribution. If ever a reasonably complete and stable GLPed
equivalent of the JDK ever becomes available or Richard is willing to
accept a JDE that acknowledges the existence of other free, though
non-GPLed, software, I will reconsider this decision.
