Thats a bit strange. There are quite a few other emacs
packages which refer to non GPL software, like browse-url (which talks
about netscape), and vc.el refers to SCCS, the original of which is
properitary. Added to that Im using NTEmacs which refers to a non GPL
system in its title! I can understand why RMS would want
acknowledgement of the existance of GPL software in documentation (as
for vc.el). But to my knowledge there is no GPL java implementation
for win32, except I suppose kaffe and pizza, under cygwin, which is a
bit long winded.

Its a pity if this is the case. I spent 4 months coding with
NTEmacs before I found out about the JDE, and had even spent some time
writing lisp myself to do (a small part of) what JDE does. It would be
nice if the JDE shipped with emacs, or alternatively if JDE was
acknowledged in the emacs info pages so that people could download it
as an add on. Perhaps the second option is better as JDE is now quite
large, and many emacs users wouldnt ever use it.

       Phil
