With the setup I have, if I use (C-SPACE) and move the cursor the text gets
highlighted. Another possibility is to use bookmarks. "C-x r-m" to set the
bookmark and "C-x r-b" to jump to bookmark. You can also save the bookmarks
and emacs will remember between sessions. You can have multiple bookmarks
and reassign them. Hope this helps.

True. However, you can get back to the point where the
cursor was before the scroll operation by setting mark
(C-SPACE) before scrolling, then doing C-x C-x to get
back there.
If you are using the scroll bars, there is
probably a much faster way to get where you want to
be in emacs. I use C-v (scroll one page) or C-s (search)
to move from point to point quickly.
