problem when unpacking

I have downloaded the file jde-latest_tar.gz; when I try to unpack it ( under Linux) with the command  gzip -cd /mnt/DOS-hda1/java-ex/jde-latest_tar.gz .... I obtain :.....not in gzip format.     thanks for any help.
