debugger performance

Anyone have any recommendations about JPDA compliant debuggers? I've been
using NT JDK1.3 with the jpda dll installed but the effective performance is
worse than reimplementing with printlns, since it takes me 15 minutes or so
to hit a breakpoint on startup of a classload and CPU intensive app that
while running in the executor would be hit in 5 seconds. Is the performance
I've been experiencing outlandish?
