Emacs has to establish a connection with this socket. In your case, the connection is never made. Many other Windows/NT users have had the same problem. Unfortunately, I have NEVER had this problem on any of the Windows machines or Unix machines that I use (Windows 95 at home, Windows/NT Service Pack 5 and Solaris at work). Thus I cannot reproduce the problem and therefore cannot debug it. I am waiting for some enterprising user who has this problem to try to debug the JDEbug code. Thus far, the only user who has worked at this problem found that reinstalling one of Microsofts NT service packs cured it. I plan at some point to include a variable that allows you to disable creation of the standard I/O connection. This should establish whether the problem is really with the standard I/O socket connection or something else. I am sorry that I cannot be of further help but this problem baffles me and I have no idea how to debug it without being able to reproduce it on any of the systems I use. - Paul
