Possibly others might be able to help with this:

Subject: RE: Fail on scan of long .java files

The .java files I have that are over 49K still fail, even when the
jde-auto-parse-max-buffer-size is set to 0 (for any size) or to 500000 (the
default *10). All the other ones seem to work, though I haven't tested them
all. All compile.

Could it possibly be that these files (Java1.3) are breaking the parse due
to factors other than their length?

I would say that these classes are too long to be in good OO style but alas
it is not mine to compel their shortening; so I must still be able to parse
them.

I set the jde-auto-parse-max-buffer-size via the customization menu, and
tried restarting Emacs a couple times. The symptom of the problem is the
sharp signs quitting after about 6 of them print out, and the "Classes" menu
onclick becomes bold and moves up a few pixels on the screen and freezes
there until I refocus on the .java source buffer.

Thank you very much for your Lisp code for switching the shell pointer on
the fly! I have yet to work it in to my .emacs but look forward to the
chance. As the only Emacs user at my workplace, with the online support I
feel I have a fighting chance.

.emacs file attached.

Hope you

Try increasing the size of jde-auto-parse-max-buffer-size.
