Hi Vishwanathan,
Because I don't benefit from fixing XEmacs compatibility problems or
solving purely XEmacs usage problems, it's hard for me to justify putting
much time into XEmacs support. Accordingly, my policy on XEmacs support is
to do the minimum, which I define as the following:
* I include XEmacs compatibility code in features that I develop if I am
aware of
an XEmacs compatibility issue. I do not, however, as a rule test new
features to ensure
that they work on XEmacs. This means that XEmacs usrs can generally
expect to encounter at least a few XEmacs incompatibility bugs in new
features. I feel
that it is not unreasonable to expect XEmacs users to find and fix these
problems
themselves.
* I am happy to apply XEmacs compatibility patches contributed by XEmacs
users to the JDE sources
so that other XEmacs users can benefit from them.
* I answer XEmacs user questions if I think I know the answer off the top
of my head. I do
not, however, spend a lot of time trying to reproduce a problem on my
system or
pouring through a user's bug report to try to pin down the problem. I
think obscure problems
are more efficiently handled by experienced XEmacs/JDE users via the JDE
list.
