My experience, when I tell other developers that I use emacs and the
jde, has been to the effect of "that's command line tool huh?". This
is obviously an ignorant statement but this, and other comments
(especially since I started using ecb) have led me to believe that sex
sells IDEs. While you and I know that the ECB is more than a pretty face
for the JDE, it also makes it more attractive. In the end I imagine
there are pluses and minuses to having JDE be more popular among
developers, but I would expect the plusses to outweigh the minuses.

This may be the biggest hurdle for new users of JDE. OTOH, I could see
a successful app like JDE bringing emacs into the mainstream.
