To elaborate on this... Headline support is important, because if your client can't receive messages with type='headline' then it isn't going to be much use to people who want to use something like an RSS Headline Agent. I can remember talking to an author of such a script who said that he was sending all messages as type='normal' because he had found that some popular clients simply ignore messages of type headline. (This seems stupid to me, and a good reason to leave the headline feature column in the list of clients on Jabber.org)
At it's simplest, headline messages should be treated similar to normal messages (although don't forget that more often than not they are going to have URL's attached in the jabber:x:oob namespace). There rest is up to the client author - since usually the user won't give as much priority to messages automatically generated by a computer as they would to messages coming from a human, it would be a good idea to let the user prioritize these events. For example, "email style" jabber clients could use a separate page and sort headline messages into that. "ICQ style" clients could choose not flash headline messages in the system tray, or maybe batch unread headline items together to make it easier to skim though and pick out items of interest. Yabber currently will display a headline message in the same way as a normal message, but I wouldn't go so far as saying that it has headline support. Michael. > Leave it there for sure.
