Does JIT support direct connections?

NO :(

Does it read XDB files of the old ICQ-t?

Yes and no. From old xdb files JIT reads only registration data. List of contacts is red from
main server roster ( JIT uses users roster ).

Is JIT stable (has it been tested with 40+ simultaneous connections)?

JIT works stable with over 500 users online each day. Check http://kontakt.wp.pl ( it is in polish language ! ).

Yes, you can send <presence type=invisilbe to='icq.host'/> to became invisible.

PS. I also have developed special jabberd server (on pthreads ) and fast jsm and xdb modules ( they are working for over one year ).
If anyone needs many connections I have special conection pooler called WPJ ( if you don't like jpolld or c2s ). WPJ uses /dev/epoll and can handle over 5000 users connected. On test 5 WPJ's could handle 40 thousand users connected.
