[jdev] Best way to integrate presence agent (similar to Asterisk IM)?

One function of Asterisk IM is to set a user's presence to indicate that 
he or she is on the phone.  From what I understand it consists of two 
plugins, one for Asterisk and one for Wildfire and that the 
communication happens outside the the scope of XMPP.  What I'd like to 
know is if there is a standards based way for the setting of a user's 
presence.

The reason I ask is I was thinking of trying to write an little 
application for my Windows Mobile based cell phone that would mark me as 
on the phone when appropriate.
