I'd like to decrease this timeout.
b) use NetworkManager to get notifications about network environment
changes (new networks, unplugged cables) and react to notifications
accordingly. (IIRC Windows has a similar facility too.)
That won't help, you can still be connected to your routeur / local
network but jabber server is no more available.
