I used Orion last year with great success. I was trying to evaluate J2EE
platforms to re-write (the third time) a web application that manipulated a
telecom routing system. I _enjoyed_ reading the documentation (I was new to
J2EE then). I found solutions to every problem I had (admittedly all newbie
problems) on the email list. Switched from HSQL to Oracle with the help of
just one doc, no problem. But the best part was when the oracle guy wanted
to see it work on Solaris, not NT. I jar'ed it up from my NT box, unjar'ed
it on the Solaris box, and started it right up! My example worked first
try!

I also wrote some exercises and solutions for a professor to use in a
graduate java class. I would write a working example using jsp (for a
starting point for the class), then add an EJB(for the solution) with some
steps for how to solve the problem. Then I jar'ed up both and sent them to
the professor. He could hand out the server with the example problem, then
not have to worry about setting up the server, database, connections, etc.
I seem to remember the whole server download was less than 10 meg.

Finally, I really like the pricing model. Last time I looked
Development instances were all you want for free.
Test instances were all you want for free.
Production instances were $1500 per box, unlimited CPUs

Your mileage may vary.

Well you know, I don't know much about it. Can you relate your experiences?
I'm interested because I have to look at an alternative to JBoss ... I just
went back to what I already familiar with.
