We are starting a
new project at my company soon. I would like to get started on the right foot
with a nice concrete numbering system for a builds, that actually carries some
meaning - as opposed to the ad hoc system used in the past here.
I don't know of an
industry "standard" as such for doing this, but there are obviously widely
understood techniques (like the way the Linux kernel releases are numbered).
Does anyone have any suggestions or links to a description of a numbering system
I can take a look at? I expect that GNU or Jakarta projects probably follow some
system, but I can't find it written down anywhere.
