Hi / Shalom,
This is going to become an off-list discussion or one for "plain talking
Java" , but with jdjlist-traffic low I dare to put the beginning here:

I'm currently concentrating on Java for PDAs - therefor Java versions 1.0
and 1.1 (J2ME) .
I just got a test version of the new "EVM" Jeode from Insignia - great
product , installs easily even on older "iPaqs" and the Mediaplayer demo ( @
http://uuhome.de/penski/past.htm ) works with as less as 4MB of RAM free).

When "java.nio.*" is included in future versions of generally available
mobile Java VMs I'll give it a try
(I also have to think about Java VMs on widely-spread cellular phones /
smartphones).

I think the PC segment is dominated by MS-Netmeeting (contained in OS
packages and featured in PC-related TV shows)
with many integrated interactive features besides mere image and sound
transfer , so no need for a Java solution in standard cases.
After having subscribed to my highspeed (coaxial) internet connection (when
monthly fees become reasonable - perhaps in a year)
I'll give Netmeeting a try, too.

For (WinCE) PDAs there already is a streaming solution called "PocketTV"
which might become bidirectional in the near future.

 sincerely,
 U. Penski
