I agree that new contributors should be as smooth as possible.
Do you have any additional information (e.g. test output of the
XStreamDOMTest) and/or any ideas why the tests may have failed? I cannot
see any obvious problems why they would fail (on Windows).

Has a ticket been filed for this in Jira? It can be quite discouraging
for potential contributors when their first attempt to build the
project fails. It would be worthwhile fixing this, even if the same
tests pass on other environments. The tests should pass on any
environment that Jenkins is capable of running on.
