Sure, the thing is that indeed, depending on many factors, the update can come very quickly (say you are lucky for example to run a release a few minutes or seconds before the next Update Center update build, or a few seconds after it finished, it can make all vary of a few hours :-). Also, there are mirrors to be updated, so yeah, hence why 8 hours to not worry in front of your computer while many things are propagating and there's nothing you can do about it :).
