if you installed jenkins using 'apt-get'

add 'JAVA_ARGS' like below

$sudo vi /etc/default/jenkins

  1. arguments to pass to java
    #JAVA_ARGS="-Xmx256m"
    #JAVA_ARGS="-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true" # make jenkins listen on IPv4 address
    JAVA_ARGS="-Dorg.jenkinsci.plugins.gitclient.Git.useCLI=true" # like this
