What's happening is that when you enter your password and save the form, it's encrypted. When you reload the configuration, the field is populated with the encrypted password, which is why it looks so much longer. Unfortunately, the form field validation doesn't seem to take this into account, and that's why it's showing you the warning.
I'll leave this open since the warning should be fixed, but I can assure you that it is not forgetting your password.
