The addition of credentials support to the git-client-plugin and the git-plugin has made this type of failure much less frequent. I have a bitbucket test job which regularly performs a checkout and build of the git-client-plugin source code from a copy I keep on bitbucket.
Could you check if this bug is fixed with git-client-plugin 1.6.2 (or later) and git-plugin 2.0.1 (or later)?
