Thanks Daniel Beck. So who do we have to buy off to get the fix back-ported to 2.4.x? If 2.5 isn't coming out for a while, someone needs to fix such a significant bug in the 2.4.x line.
Also, would setting the "Retry Count" option to 2 or 3 (or higher) do any good in this instance? Here is the help text from that option for those that are unfamiliar "If a build fails to checkout from the repository, Jenkins will retry the specified number of times before giving up."
