The ws step? Or the node step? Either just allocate a new workspace according to the naming convention defined for the project and Jenkins overall, exactly as you would get for a freestyle project. The step itself does not pick a path, other than to call the standard API Node.getWorkspaceFor.

If you simply want to do some work in a subdirectory, or some unrelated directory, use the dir step.
