Congratulations, this is (probably!) the kind of thing I was waiting for!
I'll read more , but as far as I understood it provides declarative
frame-based ways to use ontologies defined in Protégé' in Jess!

I am happy to announce the availability of the JessTab bridge between Jess
and Protege-2000. JessTab is a plugin for Protege-2000 that allows you to
run Jess inside the Protege environment. A Jess console window appears in
a Protege tab. JessTab extends Jess with additional functions for mapping
knowledge bases in Protege to Jess facts, and for managing Protege
knowledge bases from Jess. For example, you can define Jess rules that
pattern match on instance properties in Protege knowledge bases.
