I assume "Jess manual" refers to the file(s) accessed through
\docs\index.html in the distribution. What I would find useful is

(a) a complete documentation that actually IS rendered in a book-like
format = something you can print, put on your shelf and read on a lunch
break, including an index etc. (forgive me if it already exists and I did
not see it)

(b) a tutorial that will lead you from absolute novice to a sophisticated
application, including solutions to the typical problems that will come up
(why did this rule not fire? difference between pattern and function call,
'not' CE and 'test' CE ... see ejfried on 18 Apr 2001 "Re: JESS: CE
semantic clarification" etc.)

I know the world will not stop turning if such a thing is not available,
but I would find this more desirable than new JESS features, because I
think JESS is a well-rounded language now and it makes sense to introduce
it to a wider audience.

cheers

P.S.: If you really want to change JESS itself (apart from bugfixes), why
not DOWNgrade it instead of adding more features? I am using a Nokia cell
phone right now that comes with Java, it would be interesting to have a
reduced version of JESS running on it, and next year, with UMTS starting in
Europe, a JESS-enabled software agent integrated in your cell phone would
be an interesting feature.
