As
Christians, we believe that the Bible is the sole truth in our faith and daily
life. The more we know our Bible as the Word of God, the more we know our God
and then, serve Him. How can we know and understand the Bible, especially New
Testament rightly?

GOSPEL AND SPIRIT:
Issues in New Testament Hermeneutics

by:Prof. Gordon D. Fee, Ph.D., D.D.

Publisher: Hendrickson Publishers, Inc.,
Massachusetts, U.S.A., 1991

In
this book, as a New Testament scholar and a Pentecostal professor, Dr. Fee
explains all things about how to interpret the New Testament rightly. In first
five chapter, he says that we should recognize that the Scripture is the word
of God written by men in certain context. Therefore, we should understand the
historical context, intention, etc of the authors that God used and the
implication of the texts we interpet, so that we can interpret the Bible
accurately based on the exact intention of the authors and the implication in
our life in this age. Furthermore, Dr. Fee applied his theories to analyse 1
Timothy 2:8-15, Pentecostal hermeneutics regarding baptism in the Holy Spirit,
and church order. In sum, he encourages us to study and interpet the New
Testament accurately based on the exact context and intention, so that we can’t
build un-biblical theology.

Endorsement:
“Gordon D. Fee, an established and influential
New Testament exegete, provides a superb analysis of a wide range of
hermeneutical issues with a wholesome combination of scholarship, insight, good
sense, and passion. These cogent essays deal carefully and patiently with those
concerns that are so important in genuine faithfulness to the authority of the
Bible in the life of the Church today. Thus, they deserve a wide reading not
only in the Evangelical and Pentecostal traditions but also in the wider Church
as well.”
